Hill Head, a year in the life of a beach.
I started taking these pictures on January 1st 2003 whilst walking on the beach at Hill Head, on the Solent
- I added a couple of pictures a week during the year to document how the beach changed. I hope these
pictures show the different moods of the beach, from calm to stormy, from busy to deserted. I really
enjoyed this project, even though I had difficulties from time to time, 2 leg injuries meaning that I
couldn't walk any distance for several weeks and my camera being out of action for a while!
The first picture is New Years Day 2003, and the last is New Years Eve 2003/4 - with the rest more or less
evenly spread throughout the year.
They were taken on a long strip of beach from Brownwich on Southampton Water, via Titchfield Haven,
Hill Head Sailing Club, along to Seafarers Sailing Club at Salterns Park and then (although technically this
is the end of Hill Head) there are a couple from further along Lee on Solent.
2013 - I can’t believe this was ten years ago, digital cameras have improved a lot since then, but I think
the quality is still acceptable. Ailsa Brims.
